LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s trailer premiered at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, and it seems to be stuffed with easter eggs and movie references from the Batman universe. This comes over a decade after Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and 17 years after the original LEGO Batman.
But if you missed out on the references and easter eggs in the new LEGO Batman trailer, here is the breakdown.
List of all major movie references and easter eggs in Lego Batman Trailer
Here are all the Batman franchise references in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s trailer:
The visual onomatopoeia of Adam West’s Batman
The trailer features some on-screen onomatopoeia that does resemble the comic Batman, but it also references Adam West’s Batman, which featured similar visuals. Notably, there is no direct reference to West’s Batman, otherwise.
The many references to the Dark Knight trilogy
The LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight trailer featured ample references to the Dark Knight trilogy. The trailer featured a shipping container scene, which resembles the famous introduction from Batman Begins. The Joker in the trailer also seems to be inspired by Heath Ledger’s take on the character. There are also direct quotes from the Dark Knight trilogy, like “Why so serious?” and “You think darkness is your ally?”
World of Robert Pattinson’s Batman
The trailer featured some very evident references to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, one of the most acclaimed entries into the franchise. The Penguin car chase and Jeffrey Wright’s version of Jim Gordon all make their way to the trailer.
Some of the shots are even exact replications of The Batman scenes.
Major references to Michael Keaton’s Batman world
There are ample and evident references to Tim Burton’s Batman movies. The theme that plays along with the trailer is the primary theme of Burton’s Batman. There are also goons dressed as mimes, the dialogue, “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts!,” the Catwoman and Penguin character designs, and the name “Shreck” written on a building (referencing the villain, Maximillian Shreck, in Batman Returns).
Subtle nods to Arkham games
Apart from the references to the movies, there are some references to the Arkham video game franchise. From the explosive gel generously used since Arkham Asylum to Batman’s fighting style, it seems to borrow elements from the Arkham games.
So, all in all, the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight trailer provides ample references to the original franchise. LEGO: Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight game will arrive in 2026.
