Villains like Thanos are rare, but DC has an extensive library. Given the smooth takeoff of James Gunn’s new DCU, it would not be wrong to assume that the DCU may soon get its own version of Thanos, perhaps even more sinister. The question is, which villain could replicate the impact of Thanos in the MCU in the newly formed DCU? Here is a list of villains who may become the Thanos of James Gunn’s new universe.
List of all villains who could be the Thanos of DCU’s Gods and Monsters Chapter
In a Reddit post, fans discussed which DC villain could have the impact that Thanos had in the MCU within the new DCU. There appeared to be quite a few strong contenders.
Sinestro
A name that appeared many times in the discussion, Sinestro is a DC supervillain primarily appearing as a nemesis to Green Lantern. With an extensive comics lore and powers that include genius-level intellect, an innate understanding of the fears of others, and the ability to wield the Power Ring, Sinestro has all it takes to become one of the DCU’s biggest villains.
Trigon
Trigon is among the strongest DC entities and possesses nearly everything needed to become the Thanos of the DCU. From being a god-like creature with abilities such as immortality and demonic physiology, Trigon is an adversary with immense depth. Moreover, as Trigon has been an adversary of the Justice League, it would make sense to integrate him when the superheroes come together.
Darkseid
As one fan pointed out, “Seeing how Thanos is based on Darkseid, I’d go with the og and have it be him.” Darkseid is the villain most akin to Thanos and is also driven by an agenda that he believes to be right. He is extremely strong and has remained an arch-nemesis of the Justice League for decades.
Vandel Savage
Immersed in knowledge and skills, Vandal Savage, the immortal warrior, is another option for the DCU. He is also among the more unconventional villains, which could make things even more interesting.
Brainiac
One of Superman’s biggest enemies in the comics, Brainiac is a superintelligent android who may pose the greatest threat in the DCU, similar to Thanos in Marvel. Brainiac is one of the most compelling supervillains in the comics and possesses abilities such as twelfth-level intelligence, telepathy, technopathy, and immortality, among others.
Apart from these villains, others could take on this role. A comic-accurate Ra’s al Ghul could be a strong addition to the list, while Nekron and Anti-Monitor also have solid arguments in their favor.
Whoever takes on the role of this next major antagonist in the DCU will have a significant responsibility to shoulder. It may even be someone that fans are not expecting at all.
