The Black Phone 2 box office numbers are expected to answer the call. The sequel to the original 2021 film, The Black Phone, is scheduled to release nationwide on October 17, 2025 after premiering the month before at Fantastic Fest. In early September, box office experts believed that the film would receive a boost due to a fairly sparse October release month in the lead up to Halloween. The first horror movie was a sleeper hit during the recovery after COVID, so this follow-up was expected to do well. Fortunately, a new report believes that Black Phone 2 is likely to overperform for several reasons.
What are the latest Black Phone 2 box office predictions?
In its opening weekend, Black Phone 2 is projected to earn somewhere between $21.5 million and $26.5 million domestically. Over its run in theaters, it is expected to gross in the range of $55 million and $84 million.
It should be noted that these figures taken from several mid-October reports from Box Office Theory are higher than those for traditional tracking, which believe that Black Phone 2 will only make $16 million to $17 million. However, the report shares a couple of reasons why the film is positioned better than what standard models predict.
First and foremost, Black Phone 2 will enjoy a month that is “starved for new content in the middle of spooky season,” as there is not much competition to the horror movie in the two weeks before Halloween. The only major theatrical releases within this period is the Chainsaw Man movie and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere on October 24, both of which are not in the horror genre.
The film has also received positive review from critics, with it garnering a 75% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes out of 85 reviews (at the time of writing). Famed author Stephen King believes that the sequel is even “better” than its predecessor. More than that, actors Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames are expected to draw casual fans and young adults, particularly women, with their performances.
The director of Black Phone 2, Scott Derrickson, recently shared how this sequel was inspired by his own youth.
