David Corenswet’s Superman vs. Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel: Who Is Stronger?

Curious about the Superman vs Man of Steel debate and whether David Corenswet’s superhero is more powerful than Henry Cavill’s? Superman (2025) introduces a new take on the hero, prompting comparisons to the DCEU’s godlike Kryptonian. While both versions showcase impressive feats, their power levels reflect different creative approaches.

Here’s how David Corenswet’s Superman stacks up vs Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, based on their on-screen feats and challenges.

Is David Corenswet’s Superman stronger than Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel?

Based on on-screen feats, Henry Cavill’s Superman remains the more powerful version.

In the DCEU, Cavill’s Man of Steel fought and defeated Kryptonian warriors like Zod and Faora, held off the entire Justice League after resurrection, and effortlessly overpowered Steppenwolf. His speed even allowed him to track The Flash mid-battle, and his strength was unmatched among his peers.

David Corenswet’s Superman, while strong, is portrayed to have limits. In Superman (2025), he faced major threats, including Ultraman, Lex’s Raptors, a kaiju, and the Engineer. Though the film confirmed he hadn’t lost a fight in three years until Ultraman, Corenswet’s Superman is shown bleeding and vulnerable in the movie, a rarity for live-action portrayals of the character. While he performs impressive feats, such as saving others from a black hole using his breath, he does not yet match the scale of power seen in Cavill’s key moments.

Cavill’s Superman was treated as a godlike figure in the DCEU, while Gunn deliberately grounded Corenswet’s version to make him more relatable. In both cases, Kryptonite severely weakens them, but Cavill’s Superman displayed more raw dominance before being overpowered.

Why David Corenswet’s Superman could get stronger than Henry Cavill’s

David Corenswet’s Superman is still in the early years of his arc, with the DCU designed to unfold over a decade. Superman (2025) shows him using restraint, relying on reasoning, limiting heat vision use, and avoiding lethal force. His defeat by Ultraman involved tactical deception from Lex Luthor, not brute strength.

As James Gunn expands the DCU, Corenswet’s Superman is expected to grow. With future encounters against stronger enemies and possible Justice League appearances ahead, his full power ceiling remains unknown. Cavill’s Superman had nearly a decade to develop; Corenswet may reach similar or greater levels with time.

However, for now, Cavill’s Man of Steel still sets the benchmark.
