Dan Da Dan Season 2 Episode 2 built on the brilliant ending of the first episode and introduced many more intriguing elements, like the Evil Eye, which is extremely powerful and dangerous.
But is it necessarily “evil”?

Following Dan Da Dan’s exceptional storytelling style, this Evil Eye and its possession of Jiji also have multiple emotional angles. Is the Evil Eye a victim, even though it declares that it will wipe out all humans?
Who is Dan Da Dan’s Evil Eye and is it bad in Season 2?
In the previous episode, Jiji, Okarun, and Momo are taken to the huge worm’s location, where the Kito family wanted to sacrifice them. But the worm first ate the Kito family. Soon after, Momo and Okarun lost control over their minds. But this was not the case for Jiji.
The Evil Eye was seemingly defending Jiji. There was a small sequence where the backstory of the Evil Eye, represented by a small, pale boy, was depicted. Jiji, going through these memories, wanted to free the boy despite the warnings from Turbo Granny and walked into the trap. Evil Eye took over Jiji’s body, and his powers skyrocketed.
This new purple Jiji took down the huge worm and declared that he would wipe out all humans. The possessed Jiji also seemed to be way stronger than Momo, as Okarun had to step in just in time to save her. The upcoming episode will further deal with how Okarun and Momo manage to get Jiji out of this.
The episode also led some fans to wonder if this Evil Eye is really evil. It seems that the Evil Eye is the spirit of a child from the late Edo period. The child, as depicted in the memories, was not treated well by people and was eventually sacrificed. His spirit was trapped in the tsuchinoko sacrificial house.
So, given how humans continued to treat the spirit, the Evil Eye has an understandable disdain towards humans. And more than an evil entity, it is a victim of circumstances that is acting out of trauma.
The upcoming episode of Dandadan Season 2 will expand on this story.
