According to director Gareth Edwards, it’s like casting a new actor in an iconic role. “The original Jurassic Park T-Rex is one actor. Now here’s another one,” he told Comic Book. In essence, Rebirth’s T-Rex is a new character, separate from the OG queen of Isla Nublar.
Fans were quick to spot that Rexy was not part of Jurassic World Rebirth. However, considering her long and battle-heavy history, from her breakout in 1993’s Jurassic Park, through epic fights in Jurassic World and Dominion, her absence was deemed a silent farewell.
Is Rexy the T-Rex dead or alive in Jurassic World Rebirth?
Although never confirmed on-screen, all signs point to Rexy having passed away before the events of Jurassic World: Rebirth. The film is set in 2027, five years after Dominion, which already showed Rexy slowing down and settling into a sanctuary with other Tyrannosaurus.
Director Colin Trevorrow had previously hinted at her fate, tweeting that Rexy was already “nearing the end of her life” during Dominion. Considering that T-Rexes typically live about 28 to 30 years, and Rexy had already lived well beyond that, it’s highly improbable she survived another five years, even in peaceful conditions.
Still, there’s a tiny glimmer of hope. Fallen Kingdom suggested that dinosaurs in captivity may live longer. But that’s a stretch when factoring in Rexy’s battles, the Mount Sibo eruption, and her age. Realistically, Jurassic World Rebirth is her curtain call.
