Zelma Stanton is originally introduced to be working for her mother’s candy/magic shop. She helps Riri with creating a mix of tech and magic armor. The character is played by Regan Aliyah.

Zelma is the daughter of Madeline, who is also a friend of Riri Williams’ mother. When Riri has trouble dealing with The Hood’s problems, she comes to her rescue. She immediately takes the piece of Hood’s cloak, which Riri cut in the previous episode, and identifies it as bad magic. Moreover, she accesses her magical section, which she also regards as the Western Cortex of Neverish. To survive in a battle against Hood, she brings her mystic knowledge to the table and helps Riri create a hybrid of tech and magic armor. Later, she also pops up in the post-credit scene. Earlier, it was learnt that Zelma has a dream of studying at Kamar-Taj, a monastery which Dr. Strange attended to master mystic arts.

Who is Zelma in Marvel comics?

Zelma Stanton was introduced in 2015’s Doctor Strange #1 as a librarian in Marvel comics.

Based in the Bronx, she was infected by magical mind maggots that affected her head severely. She did visit the hospital, but she found no cure. Eventually, a friend suggested that she seek help from Dr. Strange.

At the Sanctum Sanctorum, Strange was surprised to see her unusual condition. He attempted to cast a spell, which unleashed the mind maggots. After fully curing her, Dr. Strange offered her a position as a librarian.

Later, she played a key role in opening and operating the Strange Academy in New Orleans, which was designed to help young magicians learn the mystic arts. Zelma was responsible for recruiting bright minds to the Academy. However, after Dr. Doom took over as Sorcerer Supreme, she was relocated to work at Doom Academy in Latveria.
