Following the conclusion of the second chapter, fans have been curious about the next installments. So, is Doctor Who canceled or renewed for Season 3?

Here is everything you need to know about the future of the science fantasy series.

Is Doctor Who Season 3 renewed or canceled by Disney+?

As of now, Doctor Who Season 3 is neither been renewed nor canceled by Disney Plus or BBC.

Season 2 aired its final episode on May 31, 2025. While there are no extra episodes lined up, fans are naturally curious about the show’s next chapters. However, Doctor Who has not been renewed for a third season yet. Additionally, rumors about the series’ cancellation started due to a report by The Sun. The report stated that the show had poor ratings, with fans unhappy with the storytelling.

Further, there were rumors about the show’s lead, Ncuti Gatwa, filming his regeneration scene and planning to leave the show after the sophomore season to take up new opportunities in Hollywood. The Sun report, citing insiders, also added that Doctor Who expected a five to 10-year break after Season 2.

However, recently, the show’s spokesperson denied the cancellation rumors. He also shared that a decision will be made on the next season after the second season airs. They added, “The deal with Disney Plus was for 26 episodes—exactly half of those still have to transmit. As for the rest, we never comment on the Doctor and future storylines.” (via Radio Times)

*Spoiler* While the cancellation rumors are “incorrect,” Gatwa’s exit was confirmed in the Season 2 finale. It witnessed a shocking twist with Ncuti Gatwa regenerating into a new face. He sacrificed his life to restore someone in the timeline and ended up transforming into a familiar face-Billie Piper. Billie Piper, who played the former companion Rose Tyler, has now become the sixteenth Doctor. While a Season 3 is yet to be announced, it is expected to showcase Billie Piper’s adventures as the new Doctor.
