Marvel Phase 4 and 5 projects featured a variety of post-credit scenes. While some of them effectively set up characters’ futures, others failed to pay off due to the ongoing shifts in the MCU. This includes projects like Moon Knight, Eternals, and Thor 4, whose credit scenes hinted at future developments but ultimately didn’t connect to any current storyline or lead to another installment.
List of Marvel’s Phase 4 and 5 post-credits scenes that may not be paid off
Doctor Strange and Clea
The former Sorcerer Supreme comes face to face with Charlize Theron’s sorceress, Clea, sporting a purple costume. She accuses him of causing an incursion and invites him on a multiverse adventure with her to fix it. So, likely, this scene could tie into the upcoming Avengers installments, but there are no plans for Doctor Strange 3 at the moment.
Hercules
In the end, it’s teased that Zeus is alive. To seek revenge on the Avenger, he recruits Hercules. Rumors about Thor 5 are currently circulating, but Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed it, so the Hercules scene hasn’t paid off. However, Thor is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Council of Kangs
Ant-Man 3 introduced the Council of Kangs to set up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. It was later renamed Doomsday after Jonathan Majors’ firing. The next big bad of the MCU was then replaced with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom. Since Marvel let go of Majors, the entire Kang variant’s setup likely went to waste, as they removed his character completely. But Avengers 5 might address the Kang storyline briefly.
New Guardians of the Galaxy
The final scene introduced the new Guardians, which include Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam, his pet Blurp, Phyla, and the new leader, Rocket. As of now, despite the tease, there are no potential signs of a sequel, so it probably went to waste. Although the scene also teased Chris Pratt’s return as Star-Lord, Marvel likely separated him from the team. His next rumored adventure involves the Annihilators.
Blade and Black Knight
Dane Whitman opens a chest, which has a sword, teasing his Black Knight origins. As he touches the sword, he also hears a voice, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?” The sword was the Ebony Blade. The scene didn’t pay off, given there are no signs of Eternals 2, and Blade is facing massive delays time and again.
Eros, aka Starfox, and Pip the Troll
But, as mentioned above, Eternals 2 doesn’t appear to be happening, so this one also didn’t pay off.
Evil Sharon Carter
In the series end credits, the government forgives Sharon Carter. She makes a mysterious phone call, which sets up her evil Power Broker origins. The scene likely hasn’t paid off yet, as she didn’t appear in Captain America 4, and Marvel hasn’t announced where she’ll show up next, leaving her MCU future uncertain for now.
Jake Lockley – Moon Knight
The final scene introduces the third alter of Marc, Jake Lockley. Given that Moon Knight Season 2’s future remains up in the air, the scene didn’t pay off in the current MCU.
