Why Lucifer Season 7 Never Happened

Wondering why Netflix never brought back Lucifer for a Season &? After six seasons of devilish drama, romantic turmoil, and celestial twists, fans have continued to speculate whether the story of Lucifer Morningstar could continue. With the final season wrapping up major arcs and leaving viewers wanting more, questions about a potential Season 7 haven’t died down.

Here’s what the creators and cast revealed—and why Season 6 truly marked the end.

Why Netflix didn’t renew Lucifer for Season 7

Netflix did not renew Lucifer for Season 7 because the showrunners, Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich, agreed that Season 6 would be the definitive conclusion. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Henderson said, “When they were like, ‘Can you do one more?’ we said, ‘Yes, but this is our last story.’” Modrovich added, “We thought of one giant story that just needed to be told, so that’s what really stuck the landing for us.”

Fox canceled Lucifer after Season 3 in 2017. Netflix picked up the series for Season 4 following strong fan demand. The platform initially ordered Season 5 as the final chapter but later changed course and added one more season. The show’s official Twitter account declared Season 6, which premiered on September 10, 2021, as the “FINAL final” season.

The showrunners explained that they had condensed the original ending planned for Season 5. Season 6 gave them the opportunity to expand and explore the character arcs in greater depth. “We literally lobbed off Act 6 and went, ‘Let’s dive into it,’” said Modrovich. The ten-episode final season included unique episodes such as an animated chapter and a musical installment.

Tom Ellis, who played Lucifer Morningstar, confirmed he would not return for additional seasons. Although he appeared as Lucifer in Crisis on Infinite Earths (2019), there are no plans for future appearances in the DC Universe.

As of now, no Lucifer spinoffs are in development. Henderson mentioned the idea of an animated series, while Modrovich joked about a Broadway musical. Despite ongoing fan interest, no continuation or revival has been confirmed.
