Star Wars fans are wondering how many seasons of Andor there will be on Disney+. The Season 2 premiere will release on Tuesday, April 22, and the jam-packed schedule for the show will end the following month. It would make sense for viewers to figure out how long it will take for this prequel story for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) to reach the beginning of the events in the 2016 film Rogue One. Fortunately, showrunner Tony GIlroy has revealed the number of seasons that he has planned for Andor.
Will there be another season of Andor after Season 2?
Andor on Disney+ will only be two seasons long.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy said after Season 2 of the show that he’s “contributed enough for the time being” and would rather “do something else for a while,” like directing a movie. A part of this could be due to burnout, as he describes the amount of work he has done for the franchise already was essentially “eight movies in five years.” And given the three-episode drops in the season two schedule, it will feel like a full two-and-a-half-hour movie will be releasing every week.
On top of that, Diego Luna has said to Deadline that he has already “said goodbye” to his character and that it’s been a “sad” and “painful” farewell, since he’s spent “10 years of my life” as Cassian. In a comment as to why there will only be two seasons of Andor, Luna says that the production schedule would have been intense, stating that “we work two years and a half for each season of this show… so imagine five seasons. It’s impossible.”
That said, Gilroy said he might return to the Star Wars universe in the future. Still, this will almost certainly not be for Andor, given that it’s been confirmed that the final scene of Season 2 will lead into the opening scene of Rogue One. And since we know what happens to Andor in that film, it’s not hard to put one and one together.
