Andor has been a big hit amongst Star Wars fans, but one of the downsides of the show is that we know what’s going to happen to the main character. This has left some wondering whether Cassian Andor still dies or if his death in Rogue One has been retconned in season 2. With all the Star Wars media that’s been released in the meantime, it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on, so you can read about Cassian’s canonical fate below.
Does Cassian Andor still die in Star Wars?
Cassian Andor’s death in Rogue One won’t be retconned. The character still canonically dies, which is why there are only two seasons of the TV series.
The series was always meant to tie together with Rogue One. The first season takes place over a year in Andor’s life, and the second will cover the four years leading up to the events in the movie.
In Rogue One, Andor is tasked with finding and assassinating Galen Erso, one of the architects of the Death Star. Eventually, this leads him to learn about the Death Star, and he determines the location of the schematics for the battle station. He and his team are able to find the Death Star plans on Scarif and transmit them to a ship in orbit. However, they’re killed when the newly completed station fires its superlaser on the planet.
Even though we know Cassian’s story ends in Rogue One, watching his earlier struggles makes his sacrifice feel earned. The series shows his mistakes, the people he loses, and the lessons he learns. Seeing how he becomes more committed and finds reasons to keep fighting gives his final moments more emotion. It proves that sometimes, knowing the ending can make the experience more meaningful and personal.
