Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Who Is Challia Bull and Is He in the Original Anime?

Challia Bull takes a central role in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, serving as Char’s right-hand man and leading the search to find him after his disappearance. However, those who are new to the franchise will likely wonder if Challia Bull appeared in the original series. Here’s what happened to him in the prime Universal Century timeline and how that compares to his story in Gundam GQuX.

Was Challia Bull in the original Gundam series?

Challia Bull was in the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series and was a commander in the Jupiter Energy Fleet. In Episode 39, he is summoned by the Zeon leader, Gihren Zabi, and it’s revealed that he is a Newtype. He’s placed under Kycilia Zabi’s command and assigned to the MAN-03 Braw Bro mobile armor.

While Bull meets with Char in the prime Universal Century timeline, their relationship isn’t nearly as close as what we see in GQuX. Challia takes the Braw Bro to Char’s Zanzibar, and they discuss Amuro Ray’s potential Newtype abilities, but that’s the only time they speak in the original series.

Shortly after his discussion with Char, Bull takes the Braw Bro for a test flight, and runs into Amuro piloting the Gundam. While Bull puts up a good fight, heavily damaging the Guncannon in the process, Amuro is able to destroy the Braw Bro. Bull is killed in the explosion.

In GQuuuuuuX, Challia Bull still ends up piloting a mobile armor. However, he becomes Char’s “MAV,” and the two fight in multiple successful engagements. After Char’s disappearance, he is eventually promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and given command of a fleet. However, he remains dedicated to his former commander and chases rumored appearances of the Red Gundam, hoping to find him.

His expanded role in GQuuuuuuX reimagines Bull’s original brief appearance, providing deeper character development. This enriched storyline highlights Bull’s loyalty and offers longtime Gundam fans fresh insights into his potential beyond the original narrative constraints.
