Warning: Playmates‘ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire action figures reveal previously undisclosed plot details that could be considered spoilers. However, if the toys reveal them, they will probably be widely known by the time the movie comes out.
While Super7 keeps cranking out made-to-order figures from the Japanese Godzilla movies by Toho, Playmates has the domestic mass-retail toy license for the latest installment of the American “Monsterverse.” Hitting stores very soon, their take on the iconic monsters in their latest form will hit stores soon — along with a couple of other characters.
Calling All New Monsters
Available at an affordable $9.99, the 6-inch figure assortment will include Godzilla, Kong (with B.E.A.S.T. glove), Godzilla evolved, new villainous ape Skar King, and a two-pack of Suko and Titanus Doug. Who? Well, Suko appears to be this movie’s take on Son of Kong, as seen in the trailer. As for Doug, he looks like a baby Godzilla, though he bears little resemblance to predecessors like Minya or Godzooky. Skar King will be a Target exclusive, with all others being sold at Walmart as well. In addition, Amazon will carry Godzilla evolved and Kong.
Seven-inch figures at $14.99 apiece will include Battle Roar versions of Godzilla, Kong, and Skar King, with sound effects. A special “Titan Evolution” Godzilla figure will allow the classic Godzilla to shed its skin and become the more evolved version in the movie — this appears to be a reaction to comments about Godzilla being “thicc” in the prior installments. He’s dropping weight this time. Skar King and Titan Evolution Godzilla are Target exclusives.
At $24.99, 11-inch versions of Godzilla, Kong, and Skar King offer an appropriate scale to some of your smaller figures. Target, Walmart, and Amazon will carry all three. Prefer cosplaying as the Titans? Playmates also makes electronic, interactive Godzilla and Kong masks, with moving mouths and electronic roars.
