Hasbro Adds Malakili Figure Incentive to Star Wars Rancor Crowdfund

Hasbro‘s HasLab Star Wars Rancor figure project hasn’t had as smooth a journey as the company likely expected. Starting with a too-steep price of $350, and continuing with stretch goals that seemed uninspired, like a re-carded figure and cardboard backdrop, the project even lost some backers along the way. Now, there’s an extreme unlikelihood it will make any stretch goals. And some doubt it will even achieve the necessary 9,000 backers to go into production. So Hasbro’s issuing something of a Hail Mary pass, by doing what they should have in the first place: including the Rancor keeper, Malakili.

Most collectors expected a 6-inch Malakili to get revealed as one of the stretch goals. After all, who would buy the character separately without a Rancor? Instead, Hasbro unveiled Salacious Crumb and Jedi Luke, both likely to see rerelease later. The all-new figure will now come not as a stretch goal, but part of the basic package if the Rancor makes it to 9,000. As of this writing, the tally still stands below 5,000. Funding closes in five days.

In a social media post, Hasbro announced “Uncarded and ready for action, Malakili comes with his unique gaffi stick inspired by Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This figure is in active development, and we will share renders as part of our backer updates if the project successfully moves into production.”

Will this make all the difference to hesitant fans? You tell us. Let us know if you plan to back the project in comments.
