Spider-Man’s New Love Interest Isn’t Mary Jane Watson or Black Cat

For a sheltered geek plagued by bad luck, Peter Parker has had a surprisingly large number of girlfriends over the years. Despite this, his two most famous relationships in modern comics and most adaptations are Mary Jane Watson and Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat. However, the Amazing Spider-Man seems to have found an unlikely new love in his travels through outer space.

Written by Joe Kelly, with art by Emilio Laiso, Amazing Spider-Man #15 continues the cosmic adventures of Peter Parker. The wall-crawling web-head recently found himself stranded in deep space following his battle with the villain Hellgate. Luckily, he seemed to have found assistance in the form of a friendly alien scientist, who also thought he could make Peter stronger before taking him home.

However, Peter soon discovered the scientist was conducting his experiments on unwilling subjects, including Rocket Raccoon. One mutiny later, and Spider-Man found himself the unwitting leader of a team of misfits. He also, after his latest adventure, seems to have found a new love interest.

Who is Spider-Man’s new flame?

At the end of Amazing Spider-Man #15, Peter is confronted by an alien warrior woman known as Raelith of the Wretched. Not much has been revealed of the Wretched, save that they are a hereto unencountered alien race in the Marvel Universe. If Raelith is typical of her people, they have no qualms with killing their enemies, save when it is preferable to torture them slowly. This makes for quite a contrast with Peter Parker’s strict rules against hurting anyone if he can avoid it.

Despite this attitude (or perhaps because of it), Raelith became attracted to Spider-Man. The issue ends with the two kissing passionately, with Peter not sparing a second’s thought for any Earthly love interests. This is interesting, given that Peter had been dating a nurse named Shay Marken before the Hellgate battle. There had also been hints earlier in this volume of Amazing Spider-Man of a rekindled romance with Black Cat.

Given that, it seems likely that Spider-Man’s mind is being altered somehow. Because the one thing more constant than Peter Parker’s bad luck is his sense of guilt. In any case, the web-head has a new girlfriend for now.

Amazing Spider-Man #15 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
