There are many heroes in the multiverse of Marvel Comics. However, only a select few are worthy to wield the power of Thor. Now, one member of the Fantastic Four can be numbered among that elite assemblage.
The wielding occurred in One World Under Doom #8. Written by Ryan North, with art by R.B. Silva, the story centered around an epic battle. On one side stood Doctor Doom, with all the power of the Sorcerer Supreme. On the other stood the combined forces of the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Avengers. Other independent heroes were present as well, ranging from Squirrel Girl to Beta Ray Bill; an alien hero who wields the hammer Stormbreaker and the power of Thor.
The heroes executed a bold gambit, pooling their energies into an infinite loop contained by Invisible Woman. At the same time, Mister Fantastic redirected this power into repairing the broken Stormbreaker. This created a new weapon, fused with the power of Thor, which required a worthy wielder as Beta Ray Bill was unconscious.
What Fantastic Four hero wielded the power of Thor?
Thankfully, The Thing was ready and willing to prove himself worthy of the power of Thor. Ben Grimm had suffered more than most due to Doctor Doom’s machinations over the years and during the One World Under Doom event in particular. His enthusiasm for a good fight, coupled with his righteous fury, accordingly proved his worthiness to wield the reforged Stormbreaker.
While Stormbreaker is not the more famous Mjolnir, it holds the same enchantment as Thor’s personal hammer. Only a worthy soul may wield either weapon in the name of justice. This proves without a doubt that Ben Grimm is worthy of the power of Thor, regardless of which particular hammer he wields.
