Doctor Doom is undoubtedly one of the most powerful characters in the mainline Marvel Universe. With a mastery of both science and sorcery, he is capable of facing multiple foes at once. However, a recent battle in one Marvel event comic may foreshadow how he could devastate the X-Men with a single new spell in Avengers: Doomsday.

Written by Ryan North, with art by R.B. Silva, One World Under Doom #8 centers around a battle for the ages. On one side stands Doctor Doom, wielding the full power of the Sorcerer Supreme. On the other is an army of heroes including the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.

The heroes tried to pool their powers in unique ways. Unfortunately, it was not enough to blunt the magical might of Doctor Doom. However, their assault did lead the self-styled Emperor of Earth to end the fight decisively. He did this with a new spell specifically targeting the X-Men.
What did Doctor Doom do to stop the X-Men?
The mantle of Sorcerer Supreme gives Doctor Doom access to a host of magical energies. This includes the chaos magic favored by the Scarlet Witch. Having recalled what she did during the House of M event, Doom crafted a spell that temporarily rewrote the genetics of every X-Men on the field of battle. This denied them access to their Mutant powers and took them out of the fight.

This tactic could be utilized by the MCU Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Without the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, he will require something to face the impressive lineup of heroes confirmed to be standing against him. A spell that rewrites Mutant DNA would be just the thing to even the odds in his favor, if only for a moment.
One World Under Doom #8 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
