Despite having been off the air for over two decades, Batman Beyond continues to be one of the most popular alternate futures of DC Comics. Indeed, fans have hoped for a continuation of the animated series, even with the passing of Kevin Conroy and disinterest of Will Friedle. However, a revival of sorts is forthcoming, with a comic book miniseries continuing the adventures of Terry McGinnis. And he will not be alone, as the series will also stage a comeback for the fan-favorite animated series Static Shock.
Batman/Static: Beyond is scheduled to run for six issues under the DC Elseworlds imprint. The script will be written by acclaimed writer Evan Narcisse, best known for his work on the Spider-Man video games. The artwork will be handled by Nikolas Draper-Ivey, who drew 2021’s Static: Season One and 2023’s Static: Shadows of Dakota.

Batman/Static Beyond teams the heroes to save Earth
Batman/Static Beyond opens with Virgil Hawkins spearheading a technological revolution. With the launch of a new energy grid, Earth is ready to join a powerful alien alliance called The Cooperative. However, everything is put into peril when a new villain triggers a global blackout. With the rest of the Justice League distracted, it falls to the elder Static and Batman Beyond to save the world.
Narcisse says the most interesting aspect of the comic will be seeing Virgil grown into a mentor role. “Static is a former teen hero who grew up to take on even more responsibility for his city and the larger world. Terry is still figuring out how to do those things in his own way.”
Narcisse added that the new series will examine the conflict between both heroes’ respective legacies and experiences. “Terry’s still a high school student but he’s also got the weight of the Batman mantle and the expectations that come with it as key parts of his life now. As an adult member of the Justice League, Virgil’s at a different part of his journey. But he’s driven by an adolescence where systemic injustice changed what it meant to live in his hometown of Dakota. Their approaches to making the world a safer, more just place are extremely different.”
Batman/Static Beyond #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on November 12, 2025.
