As Bruce Banner‘s alter ego is fond of reminding people, “Hulk is the strongest there is.” However, while the Jade Giant is renowned for his strength, he has other powers as well. These powers are largely uniform across most Hulks, though some of them are rarely used. One of these obscure abilities, which is shared by She-Hulk, is showcased in Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Sixteen #1.
Written by J. Michael Straczynski, with art by Phil Noto, Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Sixteen #1 centers around an unlikely evening out. Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson find themselves in the middle of a fancy restaurant, surrounded by superheroes and supervillains. This includes the likes of Thor, She-Hulk, and Loki. The entire situation is one big powder keg just waiting for a spark to explode. Unbeknownst to the attendees, however, this was entirely by design. And for once, it was not one of the villains’ doing.
The mastermind behind the awkward evening is Chef Renaud Georges Antoine Dubois. He is renowned as one of the finest gourmet chefs on Earth-616. Unfortunately, Dubois’ skills as a businessman are markedly worse than his talents in the kitchen. This led him to play upon the fact that superpowered battles in Manhattan are incredibly common. As a result, insurance claims involving superpowered beings like the Hulk are rarely scrutinized. All Dubois has to do is arrange for such a battle to break out and destroy his restaurant.
She-Hulk (and all Hulks) have super-hearing
Surprisingly, it takes far more effort than one might think to start a superpowered brawl in a crowded restaurant. Indeed, the fighting was started by a random happenstance rather than the petty annoyances Dubois’ arranged throughout the evening. However, his plan was ultimately foiled by She-Hulk and her rarely utilized power of super-hearing.
Jennifer Walters quietly confronted Dubois’ partner afterward. She-Hulk explained that the gamma radiation that enhanced her and her cousins’ bodies also enhanced their senses. She heard their discussion of the plan throughout their evening and Dubois’ panic that a destructive melee wouldn’t break out.

While not utilized as often as their super-strength or healing factors, Hulks have been previously shown to have enhanced senses, including hearing. Exact measurements for this power have not been given. However, Bruce Banner’s Hulk is capable of hearing both Doctor Strange in his astral form and an intangible Vision. Given that, She-Hulk would have no trouble with the comparatively easier challenge of hearing through the wall of a crowded restaurant.
