Comics and role-playing games are two hobbies that share a strong association. Beyond comics and RPGs often being sold in the same stores, there are several games that allow players to become a superhero. These realms will mix together this Halloween in a comic that forces Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and other magic heroes from Marvel into a twisted parody of Dungeons and Dragons.
Titled Strange Tales, the four-part miniseries is the brainchild of writer Jeremy Whitley and artist Bayleigh Underwood. Whitley first found fame for his Eisner-nominated original fantasy series Princeless. Underwood, meanwhile, has illustrated several independent fantasy and horror comics, as well as Marvel Action: Chillers.
“I’ve always been a fan of the spookier side of the Marvel Universe,” noted Whitley. “And to get to add aspects of table-top role-playing games on top of it – who could resist? Strange Tales is a treat I think all Marvel fans will enjoy!”

Strange Tales to unite Marvel’s mystic heroes
The story of Strange Tales chiefly centers around Nico Minoru from Runaways. The young sorceress gathers some friends to join her and girlfriend Karolina Dean for some Halloween night gaming. The rest of the party includes Wiccan and Hulkling.
Things go awry when a dice roll leads to real goblins materializing and all of Nico’s friends disappearing. Soon she is running through the streets of Manhattan with a dragon on her tail. Desperate, Nico discovers the Last Door leading to Scarlet Witch’s magic shop. Thus begins a quest to save Nico’s friends and figure out how this game night became a critical failure.
Strange Tales #1 arrives in comics shops everywhere on October 8, 2025.
