Superman Might Turn Evil in New DC Event to Stop Upgraded Darkseid

Superman is famed for his unfathomable physical power. However, his true strength comes from his moral fortitude and firm values. Both will be tested in the upcoming DC K.O. event comic. And they may not survive intact with the threat of an empowered Darkseid on the horizon.

DC K.O. is described as “a knock-down, drag-out fight between all your favorite DC Superheroes.” Coordinated by Superman writer Joshua Williamson and Absolute Batman author Scott Snyder, the series will pick up on 2024’s DC All-In special. The story finds a five-level gladiatorial arena emerging from the Earth itself.

36 heroes will be chosen to battle. However, it is the Man of Steel who will take center stage in the conflict and the tournament. But will Superman be the one to claim the title of King Omega and stand to save reality?

Why might we see an evil version of Superman in DC K.O.?

In discussing the story of DC K.O. both Snyder and Williamson make reference to Superman making hard choices for the greater good. “I wanted to tell a story about Superman looking into his own heart of darkness,” said Snyder. “It’s a very personal story wrapped in nine layers of candy exploding in your face.”

While the concept evokes the concept of Mortal Kombat, DC K.O. will be far more than fighting. Certainly there will be epic battles, but the emotional center of the story centers around Superman. Indeed, Williamson says this story will be to Superman as Dark Nights: Metal was to Batman.

“DC K.O. is our thank you to the fans,” said Williamson. “It’s not just spectacle—it touches every corner of the DCU.”

“Big events like this capture who we are as creators and characters,” added Snyder. “And what’s coming after? It’s huge.”

DC K.O. #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 8, 2025.
