Major Spider-Man Villain Returns From the Dead

They say you can’t keep a good man down, yet comic book villains seem to be just as successful at staging a comeback. That will be the case this October, as one particularly powerful Spider-Man villain will defy death to plague the universe. This will coincide with a landmark issue of Venom, featuring a team of all-star Marvel Comics creators.

Major Spider-Man Villain Returns From the Dead

The main story of Venom #250 will center around the return of Knull. Written by Al Ewing, with art by Terry Dodson, the story will find Mary Jane Watson finally getting into the swing of things as the All-New Venom host. Unfortunately, Knull is out for revenge on the symbiote that almost destroyed him. And there will be no friendly neighbor Spider-Man in sight to help them!

Known as the god of symbiotes and Lord of the Abyss, Knull’s first full appearance came in 2018’s Venom (Vol. 4) #3. Created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, Knull immediately earned a place among Marvel’s most feared supervillains. He headlined the 2020 King in Black event, facing heroes ranging from Spider-Man to the Guardians of the Galaxy. He harbors a special hatred for Venom, however, as he struck the killing blow when Earth’s heroes stood against Knull.

“When Donny and Ryan brought Knull into being, they created the first new villain in a while with what I’d call big villain juice,” stated Al Ewing. “He’s visually arresting. You know what he wants in one sentence. You can’t talk him out of it. He’s powerful enough to hold down a crossover… and he was given the wonderful luxury of going away for a while. When a big bad is allowed to lie fallow and drift into memory, what’s remembered is all the things readers liked about them – and that’s when it’s time for a comeback.”

Venom #250 goes on sale at comic shops everywhere on October 1, 2025.
