X-Men’s Storm Reveals Secret Superpower Making Her Stronger

Storm is one of the strongest superheroes on Earth-616. Even before she was recently chosen as an avatar of Eternity, her Mutant power to control the weather made her a major threat. However, Ororo Munroe recently revealed a secret superpower that makes her even more formidable in a fight.

Written by Murewa Ayodele, with art by Lucas Werneck and Mario Santoro, Storm #8 finds Ororo Munroe under suspicion. Summoned by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, the hero finds herself questioned on a number of suspicious matters. These range from the environmental impact of her new Storm Sanctuary in Atlanta, to her visits with Doctor Doom.

Thankfully, Ororo does not go into this legal battle unprepared. She arrived for the interview with multiple documents regarding her recent activities as part of the Avengers. Despite this, the agent interviewing her still fears she might have fallen under telepathic control. This is not unreasonable, given how often superheroes in the Marvel Universe are taken over by evil mind manipulators. However, in the case of Storm, this is not a possibility.

What is Storm’s secret superpower?

Ororo explains that she found a way to use her weather control powers to give herself psychic shielding. She had the idea to try this after realizing how many other Mutants with energy powers were naturally immune to mind control. Given that, it was simple enough for her to alter her own body chemistry to generate a similar counter-signal.

Being immune to telepathic assault gives Storm a significant defensive advantage. In the past, psychic attacks were one of the few reliable ways to attack her, given her combat training and Mutant abilities. This secret superpower seems to be both a natural extension of her abilities and the sort of clever use of her powers for which she is famous.
