DC’s Lex and the City #1 Preview: Luthor Gets Romantic in DC Valentine’s Day Special

Lex Luthor would not make most people’s lists of romantic figures. While certainly an eligible bachelor in most incarnations, his obsessions with power and Superman leave little time for love. It has also been suggested that he has little love for anything apart from himself. Nevertheless, DC Comics‘ 2025 Valentine’s Day special, DC’s Lex and the City #1, opens with a story focused upon the Man of Steel’s nemesis.

Written and drawn by Sina Grace, Lex and the City #1 centers around Daily Planet gossip columnist Trish Q. To her astonishment, she’s given access to Lex Luthor and a chance to humanize the billionaire super-genius. Trish is further astonished when Lex asks her out afterward. The big question is if he is sincere, or if there’s some angle to his apparent interest in Trish Q.

More romance in DC’s Lex and the City #1

Beyond the opening Lex and the City story, the anthology has more romance in store for the heroes and villains of DC. One story finds Harley Quinn trying to find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for Poison Ivy. One story, “Roses are Red… Blood is Too,” focuses on Raven and Beast Boy, with another, “Together Again,” featuring all of the Titans. There is also a story focused upon the many heroes called Robin, titled “To Live and Date in Gotham.”

Even the villains get in on the romantic action in this DC special. Mr. Freeze headlines the story “Beautiful Lies,” with The Riddler seeking love in “Riddle Me Kiss.” The anthology closes with a Hawkman story, “Heartbreak Lane,” which hints at the tragic romance he is forced to relive throughout his many reincarnations.

DC’s Lex and the City #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 29, 2025.
