Fresh comments cast doubt on rumors of Cailee Spaeny joining Marvel’s X-Men reboot. The actress was first reported as Marvel’s top choice to play Rogue in the upcoming ensemble last month. Insiders have insisted that the Alien: Romulus actress will be joining the mutant team since then.
On the latest episode of John Rocha’s Hot Mic, insider Jeff Sneider commented on whether there is any truth to Spaeny joining the film. Sneider said that following Kit Connor’s casting as Cyclops, he figured the other rumors about Dew Starkey eyeing the role were “a lot of noise.”
“There was something there … but he was not a finalist. So, I started asking about Cailee. I don’t know about Cailee either. I don’t know if that’s legit.”
Why the Cailee Spaeny rumor may not be as solid as fans believed
Sneider went on to add that he was doubtful whether Spaeny’s rumored character, Rogue, would even be a part of the film. “I don’t know if Rogue is in the movie, and if she is, I don’t know if it’s a major role or if she comes in towards the end,” he said. “So, if Cailee Spaeny is in the movie, I think it would be a small part and towards the end with maybe the promise of something bigger. … That might also be noise.”
Sneider’s comments suggest that all the rumors of Spaeny being eyed by Marvel may be false. The film has only cast Cyclops and, before that, added Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Marvel Studios has also found its Jean Grey in Sadie Sink, though it has not officially commented on her appearance in X-Men.
The search for new cast members to comprise the X-Men continues. Several other rumors have pointed to actors who are Marvel’s first choices to play Charles Xavier, Magneto, Beast, and others. Before the X-Men arrive, the MCU already has a few mutants, including Kamala Khan and Namor.
The original X-Men cast will also reprise their roles in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has yet to officially announce a release date for the X-Men film.
