Venom may finally arrive in the MCU through Scorpion. Michael Mando recently teased Mac Gargan’s bigger future after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor even mentioned Venom as the character’s ultimate evolution.
Michael Mando teases Mac Gargan as MCU’s Venom after Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Mando revealed that future discussions had happened. He said director Destin Daniel Cretton knows Scorpion’s comic history. That includes Gargan eventually becoming Venom in Marvel Comics.
Mando said, “I approach everything with love, gratitude and acceptance. I don’t try to predict my destiny in any way. I trust that, from a spiritual point of view, I’m part of a bigger universe that knows better than me. So I didn’t really think about it too much at the time.”
He then added, “But at this point, Brand New Day is level one of this character’s potential, and he has at least two or three levels up from here, one of them being the ultimate form of Venom.” Mando also said, “So that’s exciting to think about for a moment, but I’ve got to let it go because it’s in the hands of Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. They know what they’re doing, and I have to trust that.”
Mando returned as Mac Gargan in Brand New Day. He finally appeared in the full Scorpion’s suit. The movie ended with Gargan back in prison. However, Mando believes his story is only getting started.
Marvel already planted Venom’s setup inside the MCU earlier. Spider-Man: No Way Home left behind a piece of Tom Hardy’s symbiote. That tease wasn’t addressed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day either.
If Marvel follows the comics, Gargan could become the MCU’s next Venom. In comics, Mac Gargan was a host of the Venom symbiote. Marvel still hasn’t officially announced the next Spider-Man movie.
It also remains unclear when the symbiote will return. For now, Gargan becoming Venom remains a possibility, not a confirmation.
