David Corenswet Chooses Star Wars Over DCU’s Superman 2

DC Universe star David Corenswet has expressed his desire to join another major franchise — Star Wars — even chose to become a Jedi Knight over reprising the Man of Steel in a potential Superman 2 movie. Prior to joining the DCU, he previously starred in shows like The Politician, Hollywood, We Own This City, and Lady in the Lake.

Why did David Corenswet chose Star Wars over Superman 2?

In Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test interview with co-star Nicholas Hoult, Corenswet was put in a difficult spot after he was asked to choose between “playing Superman again in the sequel” or “starring as Jedi Knight in Star Wars.” After taking a deep breath, Corenswet surprisingly chose to become a Jedi Knight, instead of returning as Superman again, leaving Hoult in shock with his honest answer.

When asked if that was the hardest decision he had to make, Corenswet admitted that it was among them, but clarified that he was already in contract for a potential Superman 2 anyway.

“In the end, as many things do, it came down to the money. I’m already under contract for a sequel, but I’d be fresh negotiating with Star Wars,” he joked.

During Superman’s press tour, Corenswet has actually been very vocal about his love for Star Wars. In the same interview, he confirmed that he just started a tradition of doing a Star Wars marathon every New Year’s Eve.

Superman was written and directed by James Gunn based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The movie stars Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Anthony Carrigan as Metarmorpho, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Neva Howell as Martha Kent, along with Alan Tudyk, Michael Rooker, and Grace Chan. It was executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars Winther.

Superman is now in theaters worldwide.
