This Is Us’ Milo Ventimiglia Talks Auditioning for The Batman, Why He Won’t Try Out for the DCU

Actor Milo Ventimiglia, who is perhaps best known for his roles in the television series Gilmore Girls, Heroes, and This Is Us, recently explained why he won’t audition to play Batman in the DC Universe.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Ventimiglia revealed that he had auditioned for the title role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but had been deemed too old for the role by Warner Bros. executives. Although the DCU is set to feature an older version of the Caped Crusader, the actor shared that he probably wouldn’t consider trying out for the iconic superhero again.

“No, because at this point, I’m probably too young. That’s how it goes, man. When they say they want young Batman, they want some young. When they say they want old Batman, they want someone older,” Ventimiglia remarked. “As an actor, there’s always those roles where you see yourself. There’s those characters you want to think, ‘Man, I could do that,’ and you don’t get them. You see another actor take it and do good work with it or do shitty. You kind of forget it.”

Milo Ventimiglia is okay with not being the DCU’s Batman

Despite playing Batman being a childhood dream for Ventimiglia, the actor explained why it’s okay sometimes for your dreams to not be realized. “For me, I like to look at what’s in front of me and not too far ahead,” he said. “I mean you have Return of the Jedi behind you before there’s real information about Anakin Skywalker. I think I had a goal when I was a teenager where I wanted to play Anakin Skywalker in a Star Wars film just like I wanted to play Batman and I think those are good dreams to have because they push you forward.”

He continued, “But you also can’t let it deter you when that’s not your role. Maybe I’m too young for Batman, or maybe they’re just not right for me and that’s okay. I think there could be a cool universe and with AI, maybe there’s going to be a Milo playing Batman, who knows.”

Batman isn’t leaving the big screen anytime soon

Robert Pattinson ultimately landed the coveted role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022) and is set to reprise the role in the forthcoming sequel, The Batman Part II (2025). As for the DCU’s Batman, DC Studios head James Gunn has previously stated that the role will not be filled until The Brave and the Bold gets closer to the start of pre-production. The upcoming reboot film is expected to mark the first appearance of the DCU’s Batman.

The Batman is currently streaming on Max.
