SuperHeroHype sister site ComingSoon.net had the chance to speak with Mark Canton at this past weekend's WonderCon, where the producer debuted the first look at footage from his upcoming Immortals. In addition to answering questions about his Greek epic, Canton had a few tidbits regarding the upcoming 300 prequel, Xerxes, including confirmation that Snyder is not a lock to direct.
"I can't say," said Canton when asked if Snyder would be directing the film, "I mean, he's got 'Superman.' He's busy. We're busy. I don't think we're going to wait two years. But we'll work together with him and figure out who the filmmaker should be if he doesn't direct it."
Snyder is certainly involved with the project in some capacity, though, as he'll be providing the screenplay alongside 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad.
"We're taking a lot of time because [Zach] really did create something that goes in the time capsule," Canton explained, "We want to be faithful to the first one, but we don't want to do a conventional sequel. But we're getting close."
