Hogwarts Legacy 2 Gets Great News as WB’s Larger Harry Potter Plans Take Shape

Hogwarts Legacy 2 just got a major update from Warner Bros. The studio has confirmed that the sequel is officially in development and will be part of its wider Harry Potter plans.

Warner Bros. shared the news in a recent earnings report. The document confirmed that a “second installment” of Hogwarts Legacy is in the works, though no release date or gameplay details were announced. This sequel is expected to become a cornerstone of the studios’ future interactive earnings.

How Harry Potter’s next era could shape Hogwarts Legacy 2

Warner Bros. wants the games business to grow in the coming years. The company said games such as Hogwarts Legacy 2 will help increase profits as its lineup expands. The report said, “We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

The first Hogwarts Legacy came out in 2023 and became a major hit worldwide. It sold 40 million copies and was the best-selling game of 2023, making a sequel an obvious priority for Warner Bros.

Harry Potter is also heading into a new phase on television. An HBO series is set to premiere on Friday, December 25, 2026, and has already been renewed for a second season. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Gilderoy Lockhart. That renewed interest in the franchise could also help build excitement around the next Hogwarts Legacy game.

Given standard AAA game production timelines following the original’s 2023 release, a 2028 release would fit a typical development cycle. Some fans have also speculated that the sequel could arrive as an early PS6 title, with the next console rumored for fall 2027.

Warner Bros. Discovery has not formally confirmed target platforms or a realistic release date for Hogwarts Legacy 2.
