Marvel’s Avengers is Coming To Playstation 5 As a Free Upgrade

The next generation in video games will begin with the release of the Playstation 5 this fall. However, there are still several highly anticipated games slated to come out on current-gen consoles later this year, including Marvel’s Avengers. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics has good news for any Marvel fans planning to upgrade their system. The developer has announced that anyone who purchases Marvel’s Avengers for PlayStation 4 will instantly qualify to play the game on PS5 for free.

Crystal Dynamics’ Chief Technology Officer Gary Snethen shared this news on the official Playstation Blog. He revealed that as soon as his team received their first PS5 development kits, they immediately set to work on creating an enhanced version of Marvel’s Avengers. Snethen uses a lot of technical jargon while explaining how they pulled this off, but his enthusiasm is unmistakable. It definitely sounds like the PS5 incarnation of the game will really flex the power of the new console.

“PS5 greatly lifts the performance and graphics bar for consoles,” wrote Snethen. “The new GPU allows us to increase our texture resolution; push a higher level of detail farther from the player; enhance our ambient occlusion; improve our anisotropic filtering; and add a variety of new graphics features such as stochastic screen-space reflections with contact-aware sharpening.”

Marvel’s Avengers also takes full advantage of the PS5’s “introduction of an ultra-high speed SSD with lightning fast load speeds.” According to Snethen, this shaves load times down to one or two seconds. Snethen also teased that the upgraded game’s framerate “targets 60 FPS with dynamic 4K resolution.” To give a better idea of what this looks like, he shared new screenshots of Marvel’s Avengers running on PS5. Marvel’s Avengers will hit PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on September 4.
