D&D: Harry Potter Director Tackling Netflix Live-Action TV Show, Title & Details Revealed

Dungeons & Dragons is coming to Netflix with a Harry Potter director handling the project. The live-action television show now has a confirmed title, along with other details.

According to a recent report from Deadline, the streaming giant is working on a Dungeons & Dragons project named Ravenloft. Alfonso Cuarón is working as an executive producer on the upcoming TV show.

For the unversed, Cuarón famously directed the third installment of Warner Bros.’ film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Alongside Cuarón, Ravenloft also features Gabriel Marano (Hasbro Entertainment), Richard Schwartz, Gaby Rodriguez, and John August as executive producers. August is also in charge as the writer of the gothic horror drama.

Further updates from Deadline revealed that Ravenloft will follow an independent path. It will not be related to The Forgotten Realms, another D&D-based project that Netflix greenlit back in 2025. With Shawn Levy as the executive producer and Drew Crevello as the writer, the project is scrapped for now.

Ravenloft is a dark fantasy story set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The upcoming live-action show looks to combine fantasy adventure with gothic horror and tragic romance. The major focus of the storyline will remain on the vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich.

The character of Strahd von Zarovich doesn’t simply begin the journey as a villain. Rather, his life choices and the narrative’s turn of events gradually make him a cruel villain in Dungeons & Dragons.

Ravenloft is one of the most popular settings in Dungeons & Dragons, created in 1983 by Tracy and Laura Hickman. Over time, it became much bigger than just a tabletop game setting. Based on Ravenloft, almost 100+ official novels, game adventures, video games, and rulebooks have been released. The character of Strahd was also mentioned in Netflix’s Stranger Things, as the series frequently draws references to Dungeons & Dragons.
