The upcoming Power Rangers Disney+ TV show reboot has received a big casting update.
Last year, it was announced that Percy Jackson and the Olypmians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were tapped to write, showrun, and produce a new live-action Power Rangers show for Disney+. The show is expected to “reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers,” via TheWrap.
There hasn’t been too much news about the project since it was announced; however, we now have an idea of who Disney is potentially considering to star in the show.
What is the casting update on the Power Rangers TV show reboot?
According to TheDisInsider, Peyton Elizabeth Lee is one of three names that are being floated around for the Power Rangers show. Lee has been part of a number of Disney projects in the past, including Andi Mack, The Lion Guard, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., Prom Pact, and more.
The second name is Mason Thames, who starred in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake and Black Phone 2 in 2025.
“I will say, I do not know of him being in the running, but as I said in a past DisInsider Mailbag, Disney is eager to work with Thames, and it will happen at some point,” the article notes. “The Power Rangers series is expected to start filming in April, and by then, How to Train Your Dragon 2 will have wrapped up filming.”
Lastly, Priyanka Chopra, who is married to Nick Jonas, is reportedly being eyed for the villainous role of Rita Rapulsa.
The article further states, “Other names being floated around, who are being considered and/or have tested for roles are Shaun Dixon (Vampirina: Teenage Vampire), Paris Bravo (Venom: The Last Dance), Judd Goodstein (Young Jedi Adventures), Momoma Tamada (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Christian Alexander Cruz, and Kira McLean.”
This is all just a rumor at this time, and it should be treated as such, as there’s been no official announcement from Disney regarding who is starring in, or who may potentially being eyed, for the new Power Rangers show.
