Sinners director Ryan Coogler has shared an exciting update regarding his The X-Files reboot.
Created by Chris Carter, the original The X-Files series premiered in 1993 and ran for nine seasons and starred David Duchovny as Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully. There were also two additional seasons that followed after the series initially ended, along with two feature films: 1998’s The X-Files and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Coogler is now developing a reboot of The X-Files. While there hasn’t been too many details revealed about the project at this point in time, there have been rumors that Danielle Deadwyler could be starring in the new show.
What did Ryan Coogler say about The X-Files reboot?
Speaking with Variety, Coogler said that he wanted to make a reboot of The X-Files largely because his mother is a big fan of the original series.
“Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom,” Coogler said. “My mom means the world to me — she’s actually here tonight — so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”
Regarding if Deadwyler will indeed star in the show, Coogler said, “I can neither confirm or deny.” He also wouldn’t confirm or deny whether or not Anderson or Duchovny will return to reprise their respective roles.
Deadwyler recently starred as Elena Cole in Netflix’s Carry-On and Ramona in Universal and Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard. Her filmography also includes 2019’s The Devil to Pay, 2021’s The Harder They Fall, 2022’s Till, 2024’s I Saw the TV Glow, 2024’s The Piano Lesson, and more.
A premiere date for Coogler’s The X-Files reboot has not yet been announced.
