It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 Will Feature Huge Time Skip

Weeks before It: Welcome to Derry premieres on HBO, Andy and Barbara Muschietti have already revealed plans for Season 2, which involves a significant time skip.

What was said about It: Welcome to Derry’s time skip?

The Muschiettis are two of the architects of the It franchise, which includes two movies and an HBO show. The Muschietti’s plan to expand the It universe with more seasons of Welcome to Derry.

In an interview with Deadline, the Muschiettis explained how Welcome to Derry Season 1 sets up Season 2 by traveling further back in time to explore more mythology in the horror franchise.

“There is an intentional bigger arc that will open,” Andy explained to Deadline. “My intention with this was to create a story that is a little bit like an iceberg under the water all through Seasons 1, 2, and 3. There will be an expansion in the mythology and more answers to the big questions.”

Andy added, “The second season will be in 1935. At the end of Season 1, we are hinting at the reason why we are going to tell the story in two more seasons and backwards.”

It: Welcome to Derry has not been renewed for Season 2 by HBO.

It: Welcome to Derry is a prequel series to It and It: Chapter Two. Set in 1962, the series explores the Hanlon family’s arrival in Derry and the origins of Pennywise the Clown.

The cast includes Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as Pennywise the Clown.

It: Welcome to Derry is developed for television by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. The series is based on the novel It by horror maestro Stephen King. Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane are co-showrunners on the series. Welcome to Derry is produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television.

It: Welcome to Derry premieres on Sunday, October 26, 2025, on HBO and streams on HBO Max.
