Peacemaker Season 2 concluded with the introduction of a new location called Salvation, which James Gunn confirmed is “incredibly important” to the future of the DC Universe. The finale showed Rick Flag Sr. proposing Salvation as a metahuman prison after failures at Arkham Asylum and Belle Reve. When the Secretary of Defense hesitated, Flag Sr. kidnapped Christopher Smith, sending him to Salvation as the first “volunteer” in revenge for his son’s death.

In the HBO Max featurette Peace By Peace: Part Three, Gunn said, “I’m leaving Peacemaker stranded on the planet Salvation. And that’s going to be an incredibly important thing in the future of the DCU.” John Cena described the ending as “pretty crazy,” adding that “Chris is alone in an unfamiliar world.” Gunn revealed that the government plans to “help humanity by sending the metahumans into Salvation,” referencing the Salvation Run comics.

The 2007–2008 DC Comics series Salvation Run followed supervillains exiled to a distant planet by Amanda Waller and Rick Flag. It featured Lex Luthor, Joker, Catwoman, Bane, Bloodsport, and Gorilla Grodd as they fought to survive and escape. Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 marks “the beginning of a part of our larger story in the DCU.”

In the final scene, A.R.G.U.S. abducts Peacemaker and throws him onto Salvation, where Rick Flag Sr. says, “This is for Ricky, you piece of shit.” The episode ends with Peacemaker hearing “hellish squeals from a beast,” confirming that Salvation is far from safe.
