Andor Creator Says Disney Wouldn’t Let Him Say ‘F— The Empire’ in Star Wars Show

Andor creator Tony Gilroy has revealed the one note that Disney gave him while working on the popular Star Wars show.

Andor recently completed its two-season run, as the series’ finale dropped on Disney+ earlier this month. A prequel to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the show stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Kyle Soller as Cyril Karn, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, and more.

What did Tony Gilroy say about Andor and Disney’s note?

Speaking at the ATX TV Festival, via Laughing Place, Gilroy said that the only change Disney ever asked of him was to not have a character say “f— the Empire’ in the first season of the show.

Gilroy commented, “They said, ‘Can you please not do that?’” The line, spoken by Fiona Shaw’s Maarva Andor, was changed to “fight the Empire.”

The cast of Andor further includes Stellan Skarsgãrd as Luthen Rael, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Faye Marsay as Val Sartha, Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz, Elizabeth Dulau as Kleya Marki, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, and Benjamin Bratt as Bail Organa.

“Rife with political intrigue, danger, tension, and high stakes, Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction: The Death Star, setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film,” the synopsis for the show reads. “Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from a disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.”

Both seasons of Andor, among many other Star Wars shows, are now available to stream on Disney+.
