Raised by Wolves was easily one of the most promising HBO Max exclusives to debut during the platform’s first year of launch in 2020. Unfortunately, the show’s journey has come to an abrupt halt. Variety reports that HBO Max has cancelled the series after two seasons.
Set in the 22nd century, Raised by Wolves imagined a future where Earth has been ravaged by a war between atheists and a religious sect known as the Mithraic. In the aftermath of this conflict, two androids (simply known as Mother and Father) settle on a distant planet with 12 human embryos, raising them as their own children. Unfortunately, the sudden arrival of strangers on their planet complicates the androids’ goals for humanity’s future.
Aaron Guzikowski, best known for writing 2013’s Prisoners, created the series and acted as its primary showrunner. Sci-fi maestro Ridley Scott also served as an executive producer and directed the first two episodes.
“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” HBO Max said in a new statement.

The second season of Raised by Wolves premiered on HBO Max back in February. The new episodes received highly positive reviews, making its cancellation all the more shocking. Regardless, this might just be another casualty of the recent merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery. Abubakar Salim, who starred as Father, implied as much earlier today, when he posted a lengthy Twitter thread warning viewers that a cancellation was likely. However, Salim also revealed that Scott Free is hoping to find a new home for the series. But that can’t happen unless its fanbase speaks loud enough.
So I’m asking for action. I see the pure love, passion and questions (too too many) that arise DAILY on Twitter for RBW. I’m now asking that you continue to, and with even more vigour, show that genuine love here, there, and everywhere as we search for that new home.
