Since Khonshu is imprisoned in stone within the Chamber of the Gods, it falls to Layla El-Faouly to save Marc Spector/Steven Grant from Arthur Harrow’s followers. Steven awakens in control of his body, and he tells Layla that Marc made a deal with him to disappear once Khonshu was gone from their lives. However, Marc objects to that in Steven’s reflection, but Layla can’t hear her husband’s words. Instead of despairing, Layla resolves to accompany Steven to Ammit’s tomb to stop Harrow.

Privately, Marc confronts Steven about his romantic feelings for Layla. Marc even manages to control his arm long enough to punch Steven after he has an intimate moment with Layla. But just after kissing Layla, Steven confesses that Marc pushed her away because Khonshu threatened to make her his next avatar. Inside the tomb, Steven’s knowledge of Egyptian lore allows them to navigate the maze.

Steven and Layla venture deep into the tomb, where they discover an apparently undead Heka priest harvesting organs from one of Harrow’s followers. Layla and Steven are separated as they flee, and she barely manages to survive her close encounter with the Heka.

Shortly thereafter, Harrow spots Layla and speaks to her from across the ledge. He also reveals that Steven/Marc’s memories placed him at the murder of Layla’s father years before. Although Layla tries to hide her emotional response, she is clearly angered by the revelation.

Elsewhere, Steven and Marc reconcile over the fact that Steven told Layla the truth. They also uncover the long lost tomb of Alexander the Great. Steven deduces that Ammit’s stone avatar is hidden within Alexander’s throat. After retrieving it, Steven is confronted by Layla, and she demands to speak with Marc. Once he is in control, Marc admits that he was there when her father died, but he didn’t kill him. Instead, Marc’s partner murdered Layla’s father and left Marc for dead. But that doesn’t mean that Layla has forgiven Marc.

Moments later, Harrow and his men enter the chamber. While Layla hides, Harrow fatally shoots Marc. When Marc awakens, he finds himself in a mental hospital run by Harrow’s goons, with Harrow himself as his doctor. Marc breaks free, and discovers Steven trapped in a sarcophagus. Steven and Marc are so happy to see each other that they actually embrace. However, both men react in horror when they encounter Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of fertility…who looks a lot like an anthropomorphic hippopotamus.
