Jason Todd’s Downfall Begins in the New Titans Season 3 Teaser Trailer

Titans season 3 may have saved its biggest surprise for last. HBO Max has just released the first first official teaser for the superhero series’ long-awaited return. At only 55 seconds long, the trailer is rather light on actual story details. However, it hints at an appearance by none other than the Joker as the team heads over to Gotham City to face new threats.

Fans have known for a while that Jason Todd will adopt the villainous mantle of Red Hood this year. Regardless, many viewers assumed that the show would omit the Clown Prince of Crime’s role in his origin story. In the comics, Jason was brutally murdered by the Joker and subsequently resurrected in Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit. The ordeal ultimately drove him insane and turned him into a violent anti-hero. Now, it looks like the new season of Titans is indeed taking some pretty important cues from its source material. Not only is Jason seen breaking into an abandoned amusement park and finding a smiling corpse tied to a post. We also see a shadowy figure beating someone with a crowbar, which is exactly how the Joker killed Jason in DC’s A Death in the Family storyline.

The trailer also includes new footage of Dick Grayson/Nightwing in action alongside his allies: Beast Boy, Starfire, Superboy, Krypto, and others. Season 3 will also introduce two new major supporting characters, Barbara Gordon (Savannah Welch) and Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow (Vincent Kartheiser).

Titans season 3 will premiere its first three episodes on HBO Max on August 12. The remaining episodes will air weekly every Thursday until October 21.
