Graham McTavish Books a Mystery Role on HBO’s House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon has been filming for a few weeks now, but a last-minute casting announcement has managed to trickle out from the Red Keep. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel will also feature an appearance by Graham McTavish. Unfortunately, the nature of his character remains a mystery for now.

Rumors about McTavish’s involvement with the show actually began making the rounds last week, when Reddit users posted several photos of him in costume on the series’ Cornwall, England set. But McTavish himself made it official during a recent interview with Stylist, a U.K.-based fashion magazine.

“I’m enjoying that, yes,” said McTavish. “I’m really having a lot of fun. We’ve just started. It’s a very big project, so we’re getting to know each other. They’re lovely people. It’s great, but I can’t tell you too much. I can’t tell you really anything about the story! But it involves a lot dragons.”

McTavish is best-known for his roles on Outlander as well as AMC’s Preacher, where he played the Saint of Killers. He also played Dwalin in all three installments of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Beyond his live-action work, McTavish also does a lot of voice acting. His animation credits include voicing Loki on The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Dracula on Castlevania, and playing several different roles throughout the Uncharted video game series.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO in 2022.
