Report: Marvel’s What If…? Series Will Debut In August

After Loki wraps up its six-episode run in July, Marvel fans won’t have to wait long for the next MCU show. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Marvel Studios’ What If…? animated series will premiere in August. IGN has also confirmed the report, but Disney+ hasn’t narrowed the release down to a specific date.

The original What If…? comics featured one-off tales about alternate worlds where tragedies were averted, or even timelines where Marvel’s heroes were defeated. Almost any idea was fair game for the anthology series, which was hosted by Uatu a.k.a. The Watcher. Jeffrey Wright has been cast as Uatu for the animated series, and he will also host the series like his comic book counterpart.

What If…? season 1 will run for 10 episodes, and it uses the MCU movies as a springboard for its stories. One of the episodes will feature Peggy Carter as Captain Britain, and another episode explores what would have happened if T’Challa became Star-Lord. At least one episode will apparently be introducing Marvel Zombies, as pictured above.

Several of the MCU actors are reprising their roles for the show, including the late Chadwick Boseman for the T’Challa episode. Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, and Josh Brolin have also been confirmed to return.

Additionally, Karen Gillan, Michael Douglas, Michael B. Jordan, Jeremy Renner, Michael Rooker, Paul Rudd, and Stanley Tucci will lend their voices to the series. A second season is also in the works.
