The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Sets up Three Other Marvel Projects
The waiting for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is almost up as the show is going to debut at the end of the week. Fans already knew that the story would develop what happened in Avengers: Endgame, the latest milestone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it appears that the show will also set up the events few upcoming MCU projects. While talking with EW, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman revealed that some Marvel projects would follow directly from the next adventures of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
“I can think of three that I’m not allowed to talk about,” Spellman said.
Since the series involves the highest levels of government in the MCU, there are plenty of possibilities. Secret Invasion, for one. And with Don Cheadle set to appear as James Rhodes, it could lead into Armor Wars and/or Ironheart for him. Alternately, Baron Zemo could eventually set up the Thunderbolts.
In the same interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated that they have already charted the future of the main protagonists. However, he didn’t let anything slip about a possible second season.
One of the major storylines of the second Marvel Studios series will be the rapport between Anthony Mackie’s Sam and the legacy of Steve Rogers. At the end of Endgame, Cap left his shield to his longtime friend. However, it seems that Falcon will need a while before realizing what that means for him and humanity.
“He has to decide what carrying the shield is going to be,” director Kari Skogland said. “And he very much has feelings about what that future for the shield is — as does Bucky.”
The first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will debut on Disney+ on March 19.
