Angus Macfadyen Will Play Jor-El In Superman and Lois

Later this month, Superman and Lois will give the Man of Steel his own Arrowverse series. While most of the cast has been announced for months, The CW has revealed that Superman’s father, Jor-El, will also be a part of the series. Via ComicBook, Angus Macfadyen will step into the role previously portrayed by Marlon Brando and Russell Crowe, among others.

Although recent comic book stories temporarily placed Jor-El in Kal-El/Clark Kent’s present, Superman and Lois will feature a more traditional portrayal. Jor-El and his wife, Lara, perished on Krypton. However, the official description notes that Jor-El will continue to guide his son.

“Jor-El is Clark Kent’s Kryptonian father. Though he died along with Krypton, his brilliant essence still exists within the arctic Fortress of Solitude to provide guidance when his son seeks help.”

Macfadyen appeared in Braveheart as Robert the Bruce. He has also appeared in Turn: Washington’s Spies, and The Lost City of Z, among other roles.

in Braveheart. In 2019, he would return to that character with a stand-alone feature film, which he also co-wrote and produced. Other major roles include playing Orson Welles in Cradle Will Rock, three seasons on AMC’s Turn, and a role in The Lost City of Z, in which he starred alongside Charlie Hunnam and Tom Holland.

Superman and Lois will premiere on The CW on February 23.
