Sam Witwer Teases a New Side to Darth Maul in Clone Wars Finale
There is a side nobody has ever seen to Darth Maul, and it will come up in the last season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Now that the character has made his appearance in the latest episode of the show, it seems that there is still more to learn about the villain. Speaking with Star Wars Holocron, actor Sam Witwer teased some of Maul’s differences from his previous appearances on The Clone Wars.
“There’s an anxiety that this character has in the Siege of Mandalore that we’ve never really seen from him before, so you have Maul at the height of his power, but also working some things out and trying some new things that, frankly, he may not be very good at.”
The actor suggested also that the series finale will let fans “interpret things” about the character’s final arc.
Witwer went on to add that he had some little and friendly divergences with supervising director Dave Filoni about the Siege of Mandalore arc.
“I was floored when I read the script,” he added. “I was very surprised and very interested, and the fun of that was having disagreements with Dave as to where [Maul’s] heart is at (Laughs). That’s the fun of working on this stuff. George and Dave are the overall story guys who say ‘here’s how the story goes. Here’s the shape of it and this is what we’re trying to say.’ Then it’s my job to push against the boundaries of that story as much as I can so that little things make their way into the episode that spark debate.”
Least but not last, George Lucas himself seems to be very happy about the outcome of The Clone Wars Season 7.
“George [Lucas] has been calling Dave and giving him nice little comments on the episodes,” Witwer concluded. “I really, really hope we get some positive feedback from the maker himself when this comes out. This show has such a special place in George’s heart.”
The next episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 will be available on Disney+ starting April 24. What do you think about Witwer’s words? Let us know in the comments section below.
