Stranger Things 4 Promotes Brett Gelman to Series Regulars
Earlier today, Netflix shared a montage of footage from the first table read for Stranger Things 4. The clip featured all the series’ core cast members as well as a few low-key favorites like Brett Gelman, who’s been stealing scenes as Murray Bauman since season 2. Fortunately, it looks like Murray is getting some more screen time when the series returns. Deadline brings word that Gelman is the latest Stranger Things actor to become a series regular.
Stranger Things 2 introduced Murray as a journalist-turned-private investigator who was hired by Barb Holland’s parents to get to the bottom of their daughter’s disappearance. After Nancy and Jonathan told Muray about the Upside Down, he helped them manufacture a “watered down” version of the story that caused Hawkins Lab to shut down. The lab’s closure also resulted in “Justice for Barb;” which fans began calling for after her death in season 1.

Murray returned in Stranger Things 3, where his Russian translating skills proved helpful in uncovering the plot beneath Starcourt Mall. Gelman also solidified his position as the series’ newest comic relief, thanks to his bromance with Alexei (RIP) and his tendency to butt heads with the younger characters. Aside from his P.I. skills and love of conspiracy theories, Murray is also a gifted matchmaker. He memorably helped Jonathan and Nancy realize their feelings for each other in season 2. More recently, Murray sowed the seeds for the Hopper-and-Joyce romance that was cut short before it could even get started.
Murray might be Gelman’s most recognizable character of late. However, he’s been filling his schedule with roles on other popular series like Fleabag, Mr. Mercedes, Camping, and Another Period.
Stranger Things 4 is currently in production. However, Netflix hasn’t set a premiere date yet.
