Moff Gideon Will Have an Expanded Role in The Mandalorian Season 2
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian!
Giancarlo Esposito definitely made an impact as Moff Gideon in the last two episodes of The Mandalorian’s first season . Of course, Esposito’s no stranger to villainous roles, having starred as drug kingpin Gus Fring on both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. And while plugging Better Call Saul season 5 during a TCA panel, he teased Gideon’s inevitable return.
Via /Film, Esposito was asked whether his character will get more screen time in The Mandalorian’s sophomore season. Thankfully, he confirmed that this will be the case.
“It’s growing,” Esposito said. “Yes, I do. I most certainly do.”
Throughout most of The Mandalorian’s first season, viewers were led to believe that Werner Herzog’s Client was the primary antagonist. However, it was eventually revealed that the Client was merely a pawn in Gideon’s employ. Esposito’s Moff Gideon was the one who wanted the mysterious Baby Yoda all along. And much to the audience’s shock, he was willing to eradicate the Client in order to achieve this goal.
Gideon was once an officer in the Imperial Security Bureau and oversaw the Great Purge of the Mandalorians. Somehow, Gideon also came into possession of the Darksaber, a weapon that first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
