Star Wars is bringing back one of its iconic bounty hunters, with Temuera Morrison returning as Boba Fett. The Kiwi actor reprised his role in The Mandalorian Season 2, before leading the spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett. However, his latest return comes with an unexpected comedic twist.
Morrison will voice Boba Fett in LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, according to The Direct. Lucasfilm released a new trailer for the animated special at D23. The new animated special is set to premiere on Disney+ on September 2 alongside The Mandalorian & Grogu.
The Book of Boba Fett series struggled with audiences and earned lower ratings. Despite being one of the lowest-rated live-action entries in Star Wars history, Morrison is stepping back into the role for a different type of project.
The special offers a comedic LEGO-style retelling of all three seasons of The Mandalorian. It will revisit major moments from the series while also drawing inspiration from The Book of Boba Fett.
Why Temuera Morrison remains central to Star Wars’ Fett legacy
Morrison has a long connection to the Fett family that goes beyond his work as Boba. The Kiwi actor made his Star Wars debut as Jango Fett in 2002’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. He also provided the voices of the clone troopers.
The 65-year-old actor later recorded new dialogue for Boba Fett for the 2004 DVD releases. Morrison has also lent his voice to the famous bounty hunter in multiple Star Wars video games over the years. That history gives Morrison a unique connection to both Fett characters
The upcoming LEGO special draws from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, which explains its deep bench of returning characters. Chris Buckley, who directed LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, is directing the special. Michael Price, known for The Simpsons and F is for Family, penned the script.
With Morrison returning as the voice of Boba Fett, Star Wars is keeping his deep connection to the Fett legacy alive.
