Michelle Rodriguez is not happy with the new direction the Fast & Furious franchise has taken. The actress has made her thoughts known about F9’s controversial plotline, which sent the characters into space. She also shared what she hopes to see in the upcoming installment, Fast Forever
“My big hope, if I have any wish, for the last one, is that they bring it back to the community,” Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet for the 25th anniversary of The Fast and The Furious.
“Because that community’s kept us alive for 25 years,” the actress continued. She then criticized the creative choices in F9, saying, “It’s a global community, and it has to do with cars, man! Not this 007, bring your cars to space sh–.”
Rodriguez added, “Let’s get back to what it all started as, you know. An article in the paper about the racing. Let’s go back there.”
Michelle Rodriguez’s F9 criticisms set the tone for Fast Forever
Fast Forever is the upcoming 11th and final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. The movie is expected to deliver a conclusion to the long-running series. Given Rodriguez’s criticism of F9, fans may hope that the finale will take a creative approach that pays homage to the racing roots that began it all.
Vin Diesel has confirmed that filming of Fast Forever will begin this year. Speaking with Variety at Monday’s 25th anniversary screening of The Fast and the Furious on Monday, the actor revealed, “We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio.”
Diesel added, “I’m in a good place, though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, [I cried.]”
Fast Forever is expected to be released in March 2028.
